The Jack Pine Cottage was added to the village when LUMBERTOWN USA, an attraction at Madden’s Resort was closed. It was gifted to the Crosslake Area Historical Society in 1998.
This exhibit depicts what guests might have found during the early days of resort tourism. This one room building contains a bed, an icebox, table and chairs and a hot plate for cooking. There was no plumbing or electricity to accommodate guests in the early 1920s. Early tourists could rent a small fishing boat available at the resort to explore the lake. This opened the door for the growth of Crosslake as a tourist destination and for welcoming families to settle here as a community.
