The first Crosslake store was built by Charlie Heath in 1904 and was located at the intersection of Hwy 3 and 37. It was moved to the present site of Andy’s Bar and Restaurant. It was sold to Morey Swan in 1930. Morey along with his son, Tom ran the store for 30 years. The Crosslake post office was located at the store for many years. General stores were a place for social gathering .
This replica of the 1904 store was built on the museum grounds in 1998. We invite you to step through the old screen door into the early days of this booming logging community. The store shelves are stocked with merchandise that would have been commonplace in the early 1900s.
Currently, this is where you pick up one of three FREE scavenger hunts and you’ll find yourself wandering through the village to find the answers to the clues. You never know, you might pick up a piece or two of interesting history along the way.
